Song Writing Competition |
Entries
Like many things to do with the club this is 'Anything Goes', which, I guess, is our way of saying 'open category', the only stipulations are that the words and tune have to be original. The songs don't have to be the work of just one person, group efforts are very welcome, in fact encouraged.
The songs being entered for the competition will be sung as part of the normal sing-around format, the singer(s) declaring before the performance that the song is an entry in the competition and giving his/her/their name(s) and a title for the song.Marking
Each song is given a mark out of 10. Please don't use zero, this will confuse the process of calculating the final results. Look, computers don't think like humans. Be kind to them. Halves, i.e. .5s, are allowed if you really, really insist.
As with all its competitions the club uses the time honoured 'EuroVision Song Contest' Rules (St. Denys variations). I.e. the panel of judges is the audience. All of them! That's right, All of them! Every one, including the singers, may mark the songs, the only restriction being that the singers, à la 'EuroVision Song Contest', may not mark their own entry. The resultant 'holes' in the score grid will be 'filled in' by a process of averaging. The same goes for scores from late arrivals. Shame on you!Trophies/Certificates
We present small trophies and certificates to the first three places and commendation certificates to the next three places. Ties for places are coped with in the normal way.Other Competitions
We currently have just the one club competition a year. This is a Song Writing Competition at the beginning of the year, usually in the middle of January, i.e. the January Feature Night. As stated above the primary stipulations for this are that both the words and the tune are original.
However not everyone is happy with 'doing everything from scratch' so we are considering adding a mid-year/autumn competition for comedy/parody/derivative songs. Comments please. Pretty please!
