What we do

Just to give you an idea of the sort of things we get up to!

Anything Goes

Every club session contains an Anything Goes singaround element. i.e. we go round the room with everyone having the chance to have a go at a song/poem/tune. Duos/bands get 2 goes. We try to fit late comers in as soon as possible. Wandering around the room to get more goes is normally spotted so rarely succeeds. Joking aside, if it's 'performing' art and you can do it without a mike etc. we'd love to see you, hear you, watch you, encourage you, join in with you, help you if necessary and applaud you! An electronic keyboard with a built in amp. would be okay.

Theme Nights

National and International subjects to stimulate the little grey cells or otherwise suggest songs/poems/tunes. Typical themes are Easter, St. George's Day (& the other patron saints' days), Beltane (May Day), American Independence Day, Bastille Day, Halloween & Christmas. Maybe we should include Guy Fawkes Day and Bonny Prince Charlie in that list to add even more British flavour to things? Your suggestions are welcome! Honest!!

Feature Nights

Feature Night for regular performers on the THIRD session of the month. Probably only seven or so a year, missing out December (Xmas Party), January (Song Writing Competition), June (Club Birthday) and the main festival months (August & September) when numbers can be lower.
The general structure is like a mini guest night. The evening is run as a normal, but slightly shorter, singaround session with the featured artiste performing 4 or 5 songs/tunes at the end of each half. i.e. a total of 9 or 10 songs/tunes during the whole evening. Reckon on 20-25 mins each half.

Special Nights

A Feature Night with an element of surprise - for someone!

Competitions

We currently have one club competition a year. This is a Song Writing Competition in the middle of January. The primary stipulation is that both the words and the tune are original. (Group efforts are very, very welcome. That's another way of saying encouraged.)
Possibly add a mid-year/autumn competition for comedy/parody/derivative songs?

Parties

Do I need to say anything about parties? We take every opportunity to have a party. Currently we have a party, i.e. members bring in 'nosh' etc. and we have slightly bigger raffles, in June (Club Birthday) and December (Xmas). I'm open to other suggestions.
Members also use the club for more private functions such as birthdays.
